Former North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith plans to make his second trip to Lawrence this year in October.

Smith will be a special guest of former U.S. Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker during a Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center fundraiser in honor of Kassebaum Baker, a 1954 Kansas University graduate.

Tickets and table reservations for “An Evening with Nancy Kassebaum Baker,” set for Oct. 11 at the Lawrence Holidome, are available through the Bert Nash community development office by calling 830-1701. The event is a major Bert Nash annual fundraiser.

Smith was a member of the 1952 KU national championship basketball team and was a classmate of Kassebaum Baker at Topeka High School and KU.

Smith attended a KU game earlier this year with his former teammates as part of the 55th anniversary of the national championship.
