6News video: Art a la Carte for June 15th, 2007

Welcome to Art a la Carte. I’m Journal-World arts editor Mindie Paget.

Summer Youth Theatre kicks off its season this weekend with performances of “101 Dalmatians.” About 60 fourth- through seventh-graders take the stage for this adaptation of the beloved Disney tale, which follows the daring rescue from Cruella DeVil of Pongo and Perdita’s spotted puppies. Shows are at 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center.

Lawrence Community Theatre continues its run of “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” a musical featuring a young woman from Salina, Kansas, who moves to New York in the 1920s to make a new life for herself and finds true love waiting for her. Shows are at 8 p.m. today and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

And a lakeside party complete with music, dancing and an auction will benefit the Van Go Mobile Arts JAMS Program, which provides arts-based employment for at-risk youth. The fourth annual “What Floats Your Boat?” will include a barbecue dinner, entertainment by local cover band Sellout, and a live auction featuring artwork by Van Go kids, stays at vacation homes and prize packages donated by Lawrence businesses. The shindig begins at 6 p.m. at Clinton Lake Marina.
