Vinland memorabilia sought for 100th fair

Area residents are encouraged to bring memorabilia from past Vinland Fairs to a fair planning meeting from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Vinland Grade School.

This year’s fair, which will take place Aug. 9-12, is the centennial celebration and will feature an exhibition of artifacts from the town of Vinland, which is just north of Baldwin City.

Nora Cleland, an organizer of the annual fair, said she hopes the exhibition will include photos and ribbons from past fairs and other historical items. She said she even knows of a man who still has the prize money from the first antique tractor pull, the main attraction of the fair.

People can provide items, explain the items or provide photos Saturday.

Cleland said she needs to know about every item to make space for it in the exhibition, which will be open Aug. 10-12.

Cleland also said the fair committee hopes to display several quilts made by people associated with Vinland and the fair.
