Bomb threat suspect to remain in jail
A Lawrence man accused of making bomb threats that evacuated at least two Douglas County school buildings in April will remain in federal custody without bond until his pending trial.
Michael E. Parker, 46, waived his right to a detention hearing on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., as a federal judge granted a detention motion by prosecutors.
No trial date has been set, but Parker is scheduled to appear next at 9:30 a.m. July 16 in U.S. District Court for a motion hearing.
Parker faces two federal felony counts of using a cell phone to make the threats.
Lawrence police arrested Parker on April 19, the same day emergency dispatchers received early morning threatening calls that mentioned schools and a city hall. Thousands of students went home early that day. He originally was charged in Douglas County, but then U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren filed a case against him.
