Salvation Army plans early fan giveaway
Beginning Thursday, The Salvation Army will offer fans to low-income people in the Lawrence area.
To receive a fan, people must visit Salvation Army offices at 946 N.H. and show proof of income and the number of people living in the household.
Donnie Hornberger, Salvation Army director of community relations and fundraising, said fans will be available from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays until they are gone. He said there should be enough fans to last most of the summer.
The Salvation Army usually starts distributing fans in July, Hornberger said, but officials hope to ensure people stay cool throughout the summer.
People who want a fan must bring a pay stub, tax return or other proof of income, a photo ID and proof of number of residents in their household.
