Charlton Manley sold to national insurance brokerage

Charlton Manley's offices in Lawrence, Overland Park and Topeka will remain open with all of their current employees, managers and clients

Charlton Manley Inc., a Lawrence-based insurance agency with roots back to 1861, has been sold to a Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co., a national insurance brokerage.

Under the deal announced Wednesday – terms were not disclosed – Charlton Manley’s offices in Lawrence, Overland Park and Topeka will remain open with all of their current employees, managers and clients.

Charlton Manley, with 70 employees and revenues last year of more than $10 million, joins a firm based in Glen Allen, Va., with 3,700 employees and annual revenues of $724 million.

“We couldn’t be happier to be joining with one of the largest and finest firms in our industry,” said Gary Sollars, Charlton Manley’s chief executive officer, who becomes chairman of the three-office HRH operation.

Duane Becker, Charlton Manley’s chief operating officer, now is president of HRH’s offices in Lawrence, Overland Park and Topeka.
