Commission to hear budget ideas

Bottom line

Members of the public will have an opportunity to tell city commissioners what they think should be done with the 2008 budget.

Background

City commissioners need to approve a budget for 2008 by early August. Tuesday’s meeting is when commissioners are expected to make several funding decisions on issues such as public transit, street maintenance and pay raises for city employees.

Consent agenda

¢ Approve City Commission meeting minutes from July 10 and July 17.

¢ Receive minutes from various boards and commissions.

¢ Approve licenses as recommended by the Department of Administrative Services. ¢ Bid and purchase items:

a.) Authorize payment to P.H.I. Investigative Consultants Inc. for $26,481.27 for fees and expenses for hosting the Practical Homicide Investigation Seminar.

b.) Approve purchase of three Trimble GPS data collectors and an upgrade of the existing Trimble reference station for the Utilities Department and the Public Works Department, from Seiler Instrument, at the state contract price of $71,355. Utilities cost is $49,570 and Public Works cost is $21,785.

c.) Approve purchase order to Software House International for $42,701 to continue the city’s agreement for Microsoft software maintenance through June 30, 2008.

¢ Adopt on second and final reading Ordinance No. 7923, providing for the rezoning of Glenwood Addition’s 12.465 acres from urban reserve district to multidwelling residential district. The property is at the southeast corner of Wakarusa Drive and Eisenhower Drive.

¢ Adopt Resolution No. 6730, setting a public hearing date of Aug. 28 for intersection improvements at Sixth Street and George Williams Way.

¢ Request approval from the City Commission to enter into negotiations for an engineering contract with BG Consultants for the design of George Williams Way from Sixth Street to Overland Drive and George Williams Way from Overland Drive to the north city limit, including water main.

¢ Authorize the mayor to sign a maintenance agreement for the beacon system on 23rd Street at East Hills Drive.

¢ Authorize mayor to sign a letter of agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation for consolidation of accesses between CVS Pharmacy and El Mezcal Restaurant southeast of 23rd and Iowa streets.

¢ Approve request for variance from Section 19-214 of the city code regarding a fire line and water main connection at CVS pharmacy site, 23rd and Iowa streets.

¢ Authorize the mayor to sign a release of mortgage for Darlene Barreto, 218 Ala., and a subordination agreement for Jeanette Reiling, 1064 Home Circle.

¢ Authorize the mayor to sign proposed new amendment to the Sister Cities Advisory Board bylaws.

¢ Receive city manager’s report.
