Reception to recognize former mayor’s efforts

Erv Hodges, a former Lawrence mayor, will be honored today with a reception as CornerBank’s Community Cornerstone Award recipient for July.

The reception is set for 4:30 p.m. at the bank, 4621 W. Sixth St. The public is invited.

Hodges, after serving four years as a Lawrence city commissioner, organized the Douglas County Memorial of Honor Foundation to fund a memorial honoring the community’s public servants who have given their lives in service to the country. Hodges helped raise more than $200,000 in donations for the project, now a fixture outside the Union Pacific Depot in North Lawrence.

Hodges also serves on the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center board, and the Aquila citizen advisory board.

CornerBank will donate $135 on Hodges’ behalf to the Kansas University Endowment Association. To nominate someone for the award, contact Jana Dobbs at 838-9400 or janad@cornerbanks.com.
