A 22-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Wednesday after he brandished a gun and used it to strike another man in what police believe was an attempt to collect on a debt, Lawrence Police Sgt. Damon Thomas said.

The incident occurred after 5 p.m. outside the Jayhawk Motel, 1004 N. Third St.

The suspect approached a 36-year-old Lawrence man in the parking lot and hit him with the gun, Thomas said. The suspect then noticed that motel occupants could see him from the motel windows and fled north on foot, discarding his weapon on the ground, Thomas said. Police arrested the suspect near the motel, Thomas said.

I was wondering what was happening, I saw all the police as I was driving by. I'm surprised we don't here more about things like this happening at that motel.

First, CONSUMER1-- NIIIIICE!!!!!

I thought bill collecters over the phone were a pain in the butt! Also, to quote the great comedy duo of the late 70's " What is the first thing you learn when you deal drugs?" DON't TAKE A CHECK!!!"

I view it as a win-win situation. One moron with a cracked skull and another one in jail!

My comment was sarcasm. Of course this thug wasn't a liscenced gun toter. Like the first poster said, It isn't easy to collect from a crack head. Now the crack head has a . . . cracked head.

Couldn't have been a CC permit holder because according to local hype on this board if he was he would just shot the guy. Also he would have never thrown the gun away.

If a man over 21 years of age has a gun in his possession, we must assume he is carrying legally until the police tell us otherwise. So far, we haven't heard, or maybe nobody's asked.

Or we presume that everyone with a gun is illegal. Thank-you, Topeka, for making a fine mess of things.

No problem, just revoke his concealed carry permit. What ???? Bad guys don't have a permit to carry a concealed weapon??? WHat? only the good guys do? Oh I see !! Well let's make sure we chalk this one up to More need to control those darned ol good guys. Lets make it hard for NON CRIMINALS to carry weapons. This way we make sure only bad guys have the ability to pistol whip or kill another person who is left defeneless. MORE GUN CONTROL LAWS < BUT ONLY FOR THE LAW ABIDERS>

Yep! its hard to collect money from a crack somker. You sell them crack on credit, and when they get some money; instead of paying you for the crack they already smoked, they go and spend it with the competition. I can see why a pistol whipping would do them some good. The College Motel anyone? Was this the dealer or the smoker that he hit,? Wow, this was bold.
