Swim meet to affect indoor pool’s hours

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Aquatic Division will host the Wave the Wheat Meet on Thursday through July 8 at the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive.

The competition will affect the hours of the Indoor Aquatic Center. Both the lap and leisure pools will be open during regularly scheduled times Thursday, with lap swimming available from 5:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lap pool will then be closed from 1 p.m. Thursday through July 8. The leisure pool will be closed Friday through July 8.

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., will be available for public swimming from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. For lap swimmers, the pool will be available to the public from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, and a special session has been scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The meet, formally called the Roger Hill/Lawrence Aquahawk Swim Meet, is expected to bring more than 750 swimmers and about 1,700 spectators to Lawrence. It is the largest youth competitive swim meet in the Missouri Valley region.
