Silver Haired Legislature to conduct election

Candidates for the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature are now being accepted.

Elections will be March 14; the deadline for filing is Feb. 14.

The Silver Haired Legislature informs the public and the Kansas Legislature about concerns of the elderly and senior rights.

Members advocate for legislation that will help senior citizens and implement programs.

Elections are conducted by local area agencies on aging across the state every two years.

If you are interested in representing seniors in Douglas, Jefferson or Shawnee counties, registration forms and filing instructions are available from the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging. The Web site is www.jhawkaaa.org.

Any Kansan, age 60 and older, can file.

The Silver Haired Legislature consists of 125 representatives. All are more than 60 years old and elected from their county residence. Wyandotte, Johnson, Shawnee and Sedgwick counties have five additional delegates.
