Straight pitch

To the editor:

I’m from Missouri, and you’ve got to show me!

Yes, I’m talking about all of the promises that many of our newly elected members of the U.S. House of Representatives are making.

I’m particularly listening to the Democrats, as they are doing most of the talking and making most of the promises. Most noteworthy include accountability, honesty, fewer tax breaks for the rich and an initial 100-hour week by Congress. In addition, Democrats believe that they can accomplish more at less cost than the Republicans. But that really isn’t saying very much is it?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California is to be congratulated for becoming the first woman ever to hold this prestigious position. Will Ms. Pelosi make America proud? I hope so!

Americans are not expecting corruption of power, sex scandals and such to come to a screeching halt with Democrats controlling Congress, but they are expecting more honesty and accountability from our elected officials.

While Madam Speaker Pelosi talks a good game and assures Americans that she can deliver, she would be well advised to keep her pitches straight and down the middle. Curves, sliders and knuckle balls are unacceptable.
