Woman asks court for more money in suit

The woman suing Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Bert Nash Community Mental Heath Center has asked the court for more money, court records show.

Kathy Mitchell, the mother of Brianna Mitchell, has asked the court to award her $1 million after Brianna Mitchell was turned away from the hospital in January 2005.

Brianna Mitchell attempted suicide the next day and died four days later.

The lawsuit, filed last year and amended and refiled in a different form last week, originally asked for $750,000 in monetary damages, court records show.

The original lawsuit was unable to proceed because Lawrence Memorial Hospital, which is operated by the city, was not given appropriate notice, records show.
