LHS, Free State games canceled

Freezing drizzle expected throughout day

Lawrence High and Free State high schools have both canceled their varsity basketball games for Friday night.

Continued freezing weather forced the moves, though LHS said it would continue varsity basketball practices as planned. Saturday wrestling and swimming events for LHS were also canceled.

Free State said it would also cancel all other Friday evening activities, as well as a Saturday bowling tournament and weekend wrestling.

There were other closures.

¢ Eudora High School canceled its home boys’ basketball game against Spring Hill. The game will be made up noon Jan. 27.

¢ Kansas University said the Praxis Series and School Leadership Series examinations scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, in Summerfield Hall have been rescheduled. The exams will move to next Saturday, Jan. 20.

¢ Wellsville school district in Franklin County said it would dismiss its high school and middle school students early today, at 11:45 a.m. Elementary students will be dismissed at noon.

¢ Baldwin High School said its basketball games tonight are canceled. Baldwin schools were also dismissed early today, at 2:30 p.m.

“It looks like it’s just going to be a light freezing drizzle through most of the day – extremely cold temperatures,” said Matt Elwell, meterologist for 6News. Some freezing rain is expected by early evening. “Snow we can handle, but ice is going to be the tough part for driving.”
