Intrust Bank buys into Junction City

Intrust Bank, which has three branches in Lawrence, announced Wednesday that it had reach a definitive agreement to purchase First State Bank of Junction City.

The purchase includes the bank’s only two locations, both in Junction City. The bank has combined assets of $44 million.

The deal is expected to close in March.

“We are pleased to have this opportunity in the Junction City marketplace,” said Charlie Chandler, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Wichita-based Intrust. “This area is developing very rapidly. We see great opportunity to assist in this growth.”

First State Bank has been in Junction City since 1966. It is a different company from Tonganoxie-based First State Bank & Trust, which has two locations in Lawrence.

Junction City is attracting millions of dollars in new construction and investments – including some from companies and investors in Lawrence – as the city grows with expanding troop levels at nearby Fort Riley.
