Flag respect

To the editor:

I cannot express how much it bothers me to see Lawrence’s disrespect for our country.

As I drive around town I see more and more American flags that are not being cared for properly. What happened to taking them down before sunset? And making sure to take them down in bad weather? What is the point of hanging a flag at half-staff in respect for a death, when you cannot even respect our country enough to care for this great symbol in the way we are supposed to?

I understand why businesses hang the flag, and I think it’s great, and I understand that we get busy and have other priorities, but it is not hard to take a few minutes out of your day to show the community how much we really do care for the U.S.A.

It is even worse that I see schools all across town leaving their flags up, tattered and torn.

I, personally, do not put a flag up because I know that I do not have the time to care for it the way it’s supposed to be.

Can we please just be a little more respectful of our community and country by treating the flag appropriately?

Madison Dockter,

Lawrence
