New Year’s baby healthy at home

It took more than a week, but Lawrence’s New Year’s baby, Nora Steinle, made her first appearance at home Tuesday afternoon.

“She is great; everything is just fine. It’s a big relief,” said Nora’s mother, Dee, who had an emergency Caesarean section at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Nora was born at 12:29 a.m. New Year’s Day and had trouble getting oxygen.

She was transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., where she had been, mostly with her father, Michael, until she was released Tuesday afternoon.

Doctors watched Nora’s respiratory and digestive systems, and she passed all of her neurological tests, her father said.

Dee Steinle expressed gratitude to the LMH and Children’s Mercy medical teams.

“Everybody’s just been amazing. I credit them for really saving both of our lives, and getting us back together again as a family,” she said.

On Tuesday, Nora’s big brother, Aaron, who recently turned 4, met her for the first time.
