City council member files for re-election

? A Lecompton City Council member has filed for re-election to a third two-year term.

Tim McNish, 37, said Wednesday he decided to file to continue to pursue some of the projects he has been working on during the past four years – an upgrade of the city’s water plant and the pursuit of commercial development for the city.

“We don’t have that much commercial in Lecompton,” he said. “You either have to go to Perry or to Lawrence.

“I’ve been around government for years, and I kind of know what it takes to watch the budget.”

McNish, who filed late Tuesday afternoon at the Douglas County Clerk’s office, works for Wakarusa Township’s road department as the road foreman.

McNish has three children, Jessica, 18; Brad, 16; and Blake, 9.

Two other seats on the five-member Lecompton City Council are up for election April 3 – those held by Mark Tunstall and Roy Paslay, the mayor.

Neither have yet filed for re-election.
