Chemistry teacher earns certification

Bruce Wellman, Lawrence, is one of more than 7,700 teachers nationwide to earn national board certification in 2006, according to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Wellman teaches chemistry and advanced-placement chemistry at Olathe South High School. He has been a teacher for six years and holds degrees in general science and education.

The certification is achieved through a performance-based assessment, which typically takes more than a year to complete.
