Golf USA, Lawrence, is collecting used golf clubs and golf balls to be sent to military troops overseas.

Kyle Taylor, owner of the shop, said that he decided to set up the collection after hearing from a serviceman about how troops had attempted to pass some of their downtime by sharing a single club without a grip and a handful of “distressed” golf balls.

The collection – in cooperation with www.give2thetroops.org – will run from Wednesday through March 4 at the store, 3220 Iowa.

“We’ll wipe the dust off your old equipment to send to our troops and let them know we’re thinking of them,” Taylor said.

Cash donations also will be accepted to help cover shipping costs.
