Celebrations due

To the editor:

Thank you, Mike Hoeflich, for your excellent column on Friday, Feb. 16. You have expressed in the best possible way what a great many citizens feel. You have spoken for us on true patriotism, civic virtue and American values.

This is the month the two greatest presidents we have ever had, warts and all, were born. The United States would never have been this special country it is without them. Hurrah, then, for your suggestion that we restore the celebrations for Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays.

I put my name down as one who would promote a legislative act to restore a birthday celebration for each great man: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
