Football tournament to benefit health clinic

The Kansas University Sports Marketing Club is sponsoring a football tournament Saturday to raise money for the Health Care Access clinic.

The seven-on-seven tournament will start at 9:30 a.m. for men and at noon for women at Broken Arrow Park, at Louisiana and 31st streets. Event organizers are mostly targeting college students, though at least one group of firefighters that took part last year also may be participating.

Club President Ryan Gehbauer, a KU senior from St. Louis, said the group had four women’s teams and four men’s teams registered and is seeking more participants.

The fee for participating is $12 per person; teams must have at least seven members. All of the money goes to the clinic, which provides care to uninsured Douglas County residents.

Participants will receive a T-shirt and winners will receive other prizes, including gift certificates and NFL apparel.
