Veterinarian elected state president

Dr. Candace Layton, Baldwin City, is president of the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association for 2007, having taken office during a recent association convention in Wichita.

Layton is a small-animal surgeon at Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center, Overland Park, where she has worked since 1995. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University, and has worked on K-State faculty as a small-animal surgeon focusing on soft-tissue surgery.

She received the Norden Distinguished Teacher award at K-State, and is past president of the KSU College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association. She was certified in 1988 as a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
