Girl Scouts need help sorting cookies

Local Girl Scouts are seeking help today at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds to help unload and sort cookie deliveries. Volunteers are needed between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. for any amount of time.

¢ The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to act as committee members for this year's Relay For Life, as well as interested participants. The relay is scheduled for June 8 at the Free State High School track.

¢ Several volunteers are needed to read children's books aloud to elementary school children and assist with arts and crafts activities.

The Roger Hill Volunteer Center and the "Why Wait To Read?" Giving Library need volunteers to help with the 10th annual "Read Across America Event" March 2 at participating after-school programs in Lawrence. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss.

¢ Community Living Opportunities is seeking a human resource assistant, volunteers with interest in researching grants and experience in writing grants, and volunteers interested in helping with fundraising activities such as coordinating special events.

¢ The Big Brothers Big Sisters program is in need of volunteer bowlers for the Bowl for Kids' Sake event. Dates for bowling at Royal Crest Lanes are 9:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday. For more information call the BBBS office at 843-7359.

¢ Lawrence Boys and Girls Club seeks community volunteers to assist with its annual basketball tournament March 3. The event brings together teams from all local Boys and Girls Club after-school sites.
