A collision on U.S. Highway 24-40 west of Basehor claimed the life of a Tonganoxie teenager.

Amanda Bixby, 19, was killed about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at 158th Street and U.S. 24-40.

According to the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office, Bixby was driving west on U.S. 24-40 when a sport utility vehicle driven north by Ricardo De-Leon Flores, 20, Lansing, ran a stop sign and struck Bixby's vehicle.

Flores' SUV also struck another car, which had four occupants. They were not hospitalized.

Officers cited Flores for vehicular homicide, failure to yield and no driver's license. He was arrested and taken to the Leavenworth County Jail.

Bixby was a 2005 Tonganoxie High School graduate and the daughter of Dennis and Denise Bixby.

It was only stated he was an illegal alien - nobody has proof. Don't start spreading false rumors, as all those did yesterday.

"According to a poster yesterday, the driver was an illegal alien."

Following this logic, if he had been a legal alien, you'd be calling for the immediate deportation of all legal aliens. If he had been a US citizen, you be demanding that we all deport ourselves.

This death is a tragedy, but it's apparently nobody's fault but one single driver, who has been charged accordingly.

The original posting by the LJW listed that the driver did not have a driver's license. That fact is what led to speculation on whether he was an illegal alien. Interesting that they chose to leave out that information on this version.
