‘Maslenitsa’ event to showcase folk dances

An event Friday near the Kansas University campus will feature four varieties of international pancakes and crepes, plus Serbian, Macedonian, Bulgarian, Greek and Israeli folk dances.

The occasion is “Maslenitsa,” a folk holiday that’s the Russian equivalent of Mardi Gras.

The event, from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ecumenical Christian Ministries Building, is sponsored by KU’s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.

It starts with a crepe-making workshop from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., an international-dance workshop is planned.

The workshops are free, but registration is required. For more information, contact Tatyana Wilds at tvw@ku.edu or 864-4237.
