Postman’s condition serious after wreck

A Lawrence postal worker who was struck by a truck Thursday morning remained Friday in serious but stable condition at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., a hospital spokesman said.

Jerry Totten, 56, was struck while crossing Seventh Street on the eastern side of New Hampshire Street. He was flown to the hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Lawrence police were continuing to interview witnesses after the wreck, and Friday had not yet decided whether to issue citations or recommend charges against the truck’s driver, Lawrence resident Gale T. Willey, 56.

Police said the investigation should conclude Monday.
