For the second time this month, a Hy-Vee customer in Lawrence won $2,500 through the store’s Holiday Brands for Grands contest.

Sarah Dinges, Lawrence, received the maximum prize in the contest, which rewards winners with $100 for every Hy-Vee branded product that can be located quickly during a surprise visit to the winner’s home. The contest has a cap of $2,500 for 25 items.

Shawn Brown, store director for Hy-Vee at 4000 W. Sixth St., and Kevin Green, manager of store operations, visited Dinges’ house under the guise of delivering balloons and roses.

“It took her under five minutes to find all the items,” Green said. “She was pretty on top of it.”

Having a second winner in the city during the six-week contest was an unlikely stroke of luck for the Lawrence stores, Green said. Individual winners are chosen each week from 12 stores. Hy-Vee has more than 200 stores in seven Midwestern states.
