To the editor:
Your Sunday story on Sue Mozykowski, founder and guiding spirit of Sunshine Acres Preschool, made me recall the year that she, then Sue Kean, was the leading lady in “The Ballad of Black Jack.” When an outstanding talent joined the cast, I sometimes wrote additional lyrics to showcase the newcomer. In Sue’s case, I wrote an entire song and the lines needed to fit it in.
I worked hard on the song. When I finished, I felt I had done a good job. When I heard Sue sing it, I knew I had. Her voice – and her beauty – filled Rice Auditorium, reaching the very last row. Nobody else has ever sung that song, not even wonderful Karen Stephenson who was the leading lady for nine years! It belonged to Sue.
The song was titled “God Has Many Voices.” And Sue’s is certainly one of them.
