Purse warning

December 24, 2007

To the editor:

I would like to thank the Lawrence Police Department for the quick response and capture of the purse snatcher. Ladies, be sure to always keep hold of your purses. Be aware of what's going on around you.

I was holding my purse over my shoulder in a local parking lot, with my arms crossed in front of me, when this guy drove up behind me and ripped my purse off of me. If the straps wouldn't have broken, he could have pulled me along with him.

Thanks, again, to the police, I got my purse and belongings back!

Diana Sauer,

Lawrence

Fanny Packs maybe? or wear coats over the purse strap.

Or try wallets in the front pockets of trousers.

I thought this letter was going to be about Sue Hack!

Since it's coat season, maybe women should leave their purses at home and stuff their money, phones, etc., into their pockets. Anything to make them less vulnerable is worth it.

Pretty low down. Everytime I think I've heard it all, some loser proves me wrong. I am honestly starting to believe that when we stuff our money, phones and ID's in our pockets, as confrontation suggests, that we should stuff our little hand gun in there too. I wonder if it would be punishable to shoot someone that was stealing your purse, and potentially causing you bodily harm?

Or, as the letter writer suggested, just be a little more aware of what's going on around you. Criminals look for easy victims.
