Opportunities lost
To the editor:
The energy bill was passed by Congress last week after many revisions and cuts. Some of these cuts mean that economic opportunities for Kansans were lost. When the original bill was proposed, it extended the time frame for renewable energy production tax credits. It also required energy producers to produce some renewable energy. Reps. Tiahrt and Moran voted against the legislation. Reps. Moore and Boyda supported the bill.
By the time the bill reached the Senate, despite the support of a majority of senators, an irresponsible minority, including our very own Sens. Brownback and Roberts, blocked the original energy bill. These senators should truly be ashamed of themselves for turning their backs on us, their constituents and instead siding with polluting special interests. Their actions are unacceptable. They voted against clean, renewable energy, relief at the gas pump for their constituents, and thousands of jobs right here in Kansas that the original energy bill would have promoted.
