Many government offices to close for Christmas holiday

Most government offices and public services in Douglas County will be closed Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas holiday.

Lawrence city offices and services will be closed Tuesday. Douglas County administrative offices and the district court will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

They also will be closed in most area towns. But Jefferson County’s offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and closed Tuesday.

Federal offices and banks will be closed Tuesday.

Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift buses will not run Tuesday. Lawrence commercial solid waste routes will not be made Tuesday, and residential pickups will be made one day later.

Parking will be free in downtown Lawrence on Tuesday. In Lawrence, to report a water or sewer emergency on weekends or holidays, call 843-2685.

Recreation centers at east Lawrence, Holcom Park and the Community Building will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and closed Tuesday. Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

The Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center will be closed Tuesday. Carl Knox Natatorium is closed until Jan. 7. Eagle Bend Golf Course, weather permitting, will be open for an 18-hole public shotgun tournament from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and closed Tuesday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday through Tuesday. The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

The post office will be closed and won’t make deliveries Tuesday. Express mail deliveries will be made. Regular FedEx and UPS deliveries will not be made Tuesday.

All Senior Services of Douglas County facilities and services will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver Tuesday.

The Free Community Holiday Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. Dinner plates will be served to those who cannot leave their homes. Call 841-1516 after 6 a.m. Tuesday to request delivery.

The Journal-World will be open regular hours Monday. The customer service department of the Journal-World will be open for calls and walk-ins from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday.
