Pointless thefts

To the editor:

What has happened in our world, our state, our own city that your yard art isn’t safe in your own yard any longer? Sunday morning I awakened to find my Kansas University limestone rock missing out of my yard. It doesn’t have any monetary value, just sentimental value. This rock was given to my husband and me from dear friends. My husband has now passed and this was part of our life and our home.

This summer a “deer crossing” sign that he had put up was also taken. Yet another part of him was taken from me. I have placed two wreaths at his gravesite, only to have them taken. I contacted the official at the cemetery and he assured me that it was not his crew that removed the wreaths. I can’t even decorate my husband’s grave without someone taking the items.

What kind of person takes another’s belongings, not only from the cemetery but from someone’s yard? To top all of this, my parents had their mailbox stolen the same night that my KU rock was stolen.

I know that I should feel that this person or persons must have needed these items more than I did. That just doesn’t help the pain and anger that I have.

I know that the type of person that took these items is least likely to read this letter. I hope that this letter will stop someone from taking another’s possessions.
