The stakes just got a little higher for Kansas University’s upcoming appearance in the Orange Bowl.

City commissioners on Tuesday officially recognized the football team for its bowl-bound season, and Mayor Sue Hack announced she had made a wager with the mayor of Blacksburg, Va. – home to KU opponent Virginia Tech.

Hack said city commissioners in the losing community will wear hats from the other university during an upcoming City Commission meeting.

Hack expressed confidence that Lawrence City Commissioners wouldn’t be wearing Virginia Tech gear anytime soon.

“We don’t look good in that color,” Hack told KU players and former Lawrence High standouts Brandon McAnderson and Brian Seymour, who attended the meeting to accept a proclamation from the city.
