Scotch Industries shares the warmth

December 12, 2007

Scotch Fabric Care Services, Lawrence, collected and cleaned 2,106 coats in Lawrence for its annual Scotch Share the Warmth campaign.

The campaign, which also collected and cleaned 6,643 coats in Topeka, now has collected and cleaned a total of 172,080 coats through this, its 21st year.

The cleaned coats are distributed to people in need.

"Because of various financial reasons and the fact families face constant size changes as their children grow, the need for clean warm coats is ongoing," said Scott Shmalberg, president of Scotch Industries. "This program would not be possible without the generosity of the Lawrence community."

I am very critical of the bloated and clubishness United Way, but this Share The Warmth program is one of the best. A warm coat during the winter can mean life or death, healthy or ill, to so many people. Thank you, Scotch.
