Weather shortens school board meeting
Lawrence school board members cut their meeting short Monday night because of inclement weather.
Superintendent Randy Weseman announced that he had decided to cancel classes today because of icy conditions. He said staff members would work to alleviate the ice at school sites today and review the forecast before deciding about Wednesday’s classes.
Board members did approve a consent agenda that included authorizing administrators to seek bids for lights at the Free State High School softball field. Administrators will report back to board members later on possible bids.
Judy Culley, executive director of The Shelter Inc., presented the school district with the 2007 Unsung Hero Award for the “work principals and teachers do with children'” in the program. HRH, the Lawrence insurance firm formerly known as Charlton Manley, was recognized by Lawrence Education Achievement Partners for its work with New York School.
Board members deferred hearing three other scheduled reports until their Jan. 14 meeting.
