Today’s freezing rain advisory has forced sponsors to postpone a Lawrence chess tournament expected to attract 265 students.

The Cordley Chess Tournament was scheduled to be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kansas Union. Phil Wedge, Cordley’s chess club sponsor, said the wintry weather likely would make it too difficult for schools from Missouri to travel to Lawrence.

The tournament will likely be rescheduled for sometime after winter break, Wedge said.
