Academic praise

To the editor:

I would like to commend Dolph Simons for his newfound excitement about academia and the research programs of Kansas University faculty. Just like with the paper’s sports section, I can only assume that the Journal-World will follow suit with a special section of the paper devoted to academic research, with full-color feature stories about faculty and their research programs, special sections devoted to biological sciences, social sciences, the humanities, etc., and, of course, discounted advertising rates for researchers recruiting research participants.

Naturally, the Journal-World will regularly devote the front page of the paper to KU researchers when they are recognized nationally. Perhaps the Journal-World could set a national trend, awarding a trophy for the “Academy All American,” “rookie of the year” or establishing the “Social Science Hall of Fame.” I can hear the playground talk now: “I’ll trade you two Hamiltons for a Leonard Krishtalka untenured (rookie) card.”

Nancy Hamilton,
