Service for seniors marks 25th anniversary

Project LIVELY, a service of the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

A celebration will be from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Community Health Facility, 200 Maine. The event will include a multimedia presentation featuring several clients and their families, and comments from Kay Kent, Project LIVELY founder and former Health Department director, and Sandra Kelly-Allen, Project LIVELY program coordinator.

Project LIVELY (Life, Interest and Vigor Entering Later Years) is a free service for seniors who want to live independently but need assistance finding services to help achieve that goal. The services that can be coordinated include finding a housekeeper, transportation and financial advice.

“It’s connecting the elderly with services that help them stay independent, stay in their homes,” said Lisa Horn, a health department spokeswoman.

Those interested in attending the anniversary celebration or seeking more information about Project LIVELY can contact the health department at 843-3060.
