Checkers Foods, 2300 La., and Just Food are partnering during September to raise money to purchase food for the Just Food pantries in Lawrence.

Just Food is a partnership of local pantries, community members, businesses and faith-based groups that work to provide food for hungry families in Douglas County.

The kickoff for the month of fundraising begins at 10 a.m. Saturday during Checkers Foods local barbecue sauce competition. Donations help the organization buy food from locally owned Checkers Foods and deliver it to food pantries. Monetary donations can be made at Checkers registers.
