Ill-informed view

To the editor:

As a dual U.S./U.K. citizen having lived for more than eight years in central London, I was deeply saddened by Cal Thomas’ opinion (Journal-World, Aug. 22). Saddened that your readers would have to read the garbage this man writes, with clearly so little knowledge of the subject matter.

When was he last in London? Can he explain why London property prices continue to be the highest in the world? Why Britain has high employment and a robust economy with higher educational standards than most U.S. states? Many British we know are taking their valuable pounds and buying in cheaper property markets like France and Spain, not to escape Britain, but because they can now afford it!

Also, the United Kingdom, with its rich history as a colonial power, is much more accepting of a multicultural society, and its recent governments have fought to respect the rights of all British people, not just the white English society we invented in old Hollywood movies.

The U.K. has also had a much longer and more successful record in dealing with terrorists, choosing to monitor and police them before they strike, rather than torture and martyr them afterward as we did. Cal Thomas has twisted and misconstrued facts(?) to support his clearly prejudiced, paranoid and mistaken views on British immigration policies. Please relegate him to the corner with Fred Phelps, where he belongs!

Ann Skala,
