A Lawrence man on Wednesday was ordered to serve a six-month jail sentence for a battery conviction.

Douglas County District Judge Paula Martin told Lawrence Jackson that he will get credit for 83 days he has already spent in jail.

Jackson, 51, was found guilty by a jury earlier this month of choking a woman during an incident May 22. Jackson and the woman got into an argument over $50. The jury deliberated about four hours.
