The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is extending its deadline for accepting nominations for the organization's fifth-annual Excellence in Commerce awards.

The deadline, previously 5 p.m. Friday, has been extended to 5 p.m. Sept. 5 to accommodate people busy during the Labor Day weekend.

The program honors Douglas County employers that excel in one of four categories: manufacturing/distribution, service, retail or nonprofit, a new category this year. The chamber also will present the Bob Billings Rising Star Award to an outstanding emerging company.

Companies are encouraged to apply, said Beth Johnson, the chamber's vice president for economic development. Applications will be judged on areas ranging from business stability and growth to community involvement.

Nomination forms can be found at www.lawrencechamber.com or may be obtained at the chamber office, 734 Vt.
