Volunteers are needed to provide child care for children with special needs and their siblings while their parents attend the NAMI Kansas Visions for Tomorrow Course from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on four Mondays, Sept. 10, 17 and 24 and Oct. 1. Parents and children will be in adjacent rooms. Classes are conducted at the Community Health Building, 200 Maine.

Immediate volunteer needs
- Independence Inc. seeks a volunteer to help a man with physical disabilities with light household cleaning. To help, contact Susan Miller at 841-0333 ext. 208
- Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocates needs volunteer advocates for children who have been abused or neglected and are under protection of the juvenile court.
Volunteer training begins Wednesday, Sept. 5, and ends Monday, Sept. 17. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old and have an interest in children, good social skills, good writing skills and the ability to be objective. They must also submit to background checks and be able to commit to a minimum of one year of service.
