Sport defended

To the editor:

This is in reference to the story of The Woodlands racetrack and possible illegal actions of its recent manager and the resulting opinions offered by several readers.

All sports have a good side and a bad side to them. There are people that are in it only for the money, don’t care about the people or animals involved and don’t deserve the respect of anyone and, often times, should be in jail. But, there is another group of people that love their sport, work for the betterment of all involved, human or animal, and prove to be good citizens, giving much to their communities.

To give a blanket indictment to everyone involved in horse or dog racing is unfounded and not called for.

The thoroughbred industry is dedicated to looking after the horses and people involved and making sure the “sport of kings” remains just that, a salute to the elegance, beauty and speed of the horse.
