Lawrence man convicted of battery

Lawrence resident Lawrence Jackson, 51, was convicted Tuesday of one count battery in Douglas County District Court.

The case stemmed from a May 22 dispute over $50 cash and an agreement between Jackson and a Lawrence woman. The woman fled to a friend’s apartment. While trying to retrieve the money, Jackson pushed his way into the apartment and proceeded to choke the woman, according to a press release from District Attorney Charles Branson’s office.

The jury trial began Monday and went to the jury for deliberation around noon Tuesday. The jury deliberated for approximately four hours before returning its verdict.

Jackson will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 29.
