Headquarters slates informational meetings for potential volunteers

Headquarters Counseling Center will have informational meetings for those interested in learning more about services offered and volunteer opportunities available with Headquarters Counseling Center.

The meetings will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lawrence Public Library and from 6 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Central National Bank, 3140 Nieder Road. All community members are invited to attend.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen is always in need of volunteers willing to help serve hot lunches on Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from noon to 2:30 p.m. Volunteers can help cook, prepare, serve and clean up after the meals.

To volunteer, contact Louise at 843-0579 to reserve a date and time to volunteer.

¢ ECKAN is in need of volunteers to assist with finding donations for school supplies, sorting school supplies, bagging school supplies according to grade and distributing supplies to low-income families. To help, contact Jeanette at 841-3357.

¢ Birthright currently seeks volunteers to help as office volunteers, drivers, clothing sorters, prayer partners, donors, artists, counselors and more. Volunteers can help during daytime and evening shifts as commitments are flexible. Volunteers must be gentle, hardworking and able to maintain confidentiality, and share viewpoints consistent with Birthright’s mission and purpose.

¢ Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocates needs volunteer advocates for children who have been abused or neglected and are under protection of the juvenile court.

Volunteer training sessions begin Sept. 5 and end Sept. 17. Volunteers must be 21 and have an interest in children, good social skills, good writing skills, the ability to be objective, submit to background checks and be able to commit to a minimum of a year of service.
