‘Street newspaper’ awarded $9K grant

A “street newspaper” in Lawrence has been awarded a $9,000 grant by the Oklahoma City-based Ethics and Excellence in Journalism foundation.

The grant, which is the second that Lawrence’s Change of Heart paper has received from the group, will be used to support the paper’s reporters and to help cover the cost of printing. The grant is in part because of a new partnership the paper will have with the Kansas University School of Journalism, in which KU students will lay out the paper and help with articles.

The newspaper gives homeless and low-income individuals a chance to earn income by distributing the paper for a donation.
