Saturation patrol slated for Saturday

The Lawrence Police Department will conduct a saturation patrol from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. A sobriety checkpoint, in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, will be held between 11 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday.

Another saturation patrol will be from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 31 and a checkpoint will be from 11 p.m. Aug. 31 to 2 a.m. Sept. 1.

The Lawrence Police Department also will participate in the Labor Day Special Traffic Enforcement Program from Thursday to Sept. 3. Officers will enforce seat belt laws and adherence to speed limits.

The sheriff’s office will conduct its STEP program from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Lt. Kari Wempe, sheriff’s office spokeswoman, said the office will have more programs but specific times were not available.
