Start of school at South, Broken Arrow delayed
Construction forces district to push back date students will attend class
The Lawrence School District announced this morning that the start of classes for students and staff at Broken Arrow Elementary School and South Junior High School will be delayed.
“In order to give those staffs more time to adequately prepare classrooms, the school district has decided to delay the start of school at both buildings,” said Superintendent Randy Weseman. “Broken Arrow Elementary grades K-6 will start school on Friday. South Junior High grades 7-9 will start school on Monday.”
Weseman said “an aggressive construction timeline” forced the delay at South and Broken Arrow. The time could be made up by adding a few minutes to the length of the school day.
Other elementary schools will begin classes on Wednesday, along with seventh-graders and sophomores. And the remaining students in the district will begin school Thursday.
